Visiting Roscommon this summer? Then, here are some tips for your itinerary of some of the most popular attractions and experiences available in this enchanting county.

Follow in their footsteps

An incredibly popular way to see the sights is to don your walking boots and follow The Miners Way, a unique trail of great heritage that follows the paths walked by miners who worked at the Arigna Mine, where mining has been taking place for more than 400 years. Perfect for a spot of weekend walking, the routes are well-marked routes and include Sliabh an Iarainn Way, Leitrim Way, and Lurganboy. Maps and trail information is available from Una Bhan Tourism in Boyle. Let loose in Lough Key Forest Park

This beautiful landscape is a park of 800 hectares, originally opened in the 19th century on the south coast of Lough Key. There is so much to do here, you’ll need more than a day to enjoy the adventurous offerings, quiet walking trails and interesting historic and archeological sites.

You’ll find activities like Zipit, a 900m long zipline for the brave to take in the sights from a different vantage point!

There is also an electric bike trail where bikes can be rented for fun to follow the picturesque routes through the park. If you prefer the idea of travelling through the woodland on a Segway, then you’ll find these for hire here as well. Create a splash at Hodson Bay

At Hodson Bay, you’ll find Bay Sports, a pleasant water park with great adventure available on the beach, water, and the island of Lough Ree. It’s a highly popular destination, especially during summer and has an inflatable island with its own forest tower, trampoline, slide and obstacle course.

Discover the beauty of Strokestown Park House

This Georgian Palladian house with original furniture and fabrics is a must on every visit to Roscommon. The house was built on the site of an original 16th century castle which was the home of the O’ Conor Roe Chieftains. The 6 acres of walled gardens have been restored to their former splendor and provides fascinating information on architecture and horticulture from 1740 to today.
